About this statement
This accessibility statement applies to the Neurodiversity Design Council website at thendc.org.uk.
This website is run by the Neurodiversity Design Council, operated by Common People Consultancy. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. That means you should be able to change colours, contrast levels, and fonts using browser settings or our built-in display switcher, zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen, and navigate most of the website using just a keyboard or a screen reader.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
As a neurodiversity-focused organisation, we hold ourselves to a higher bar than minimum compliance. We assess our own site against the NDC standard (NDC-2026-001) as well as WCAG, and we publish the results honestly.
What we have done
Skip navigation: A "Skip to main content" link is present on every page, visible on keyboard focus.
Semantic HTML: All pages use proper heading hierarchy, landmark elements (<main>, <nav>, <footer>), and labelled form inputs.
Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms, FAQ toggles, display switcher) are accessible by keyboard.
Colour and contrast: The default colour scheme meets WCAG AA contrast ratios. We also provide four display modes (Default, Warm, Dark, High Contrast) via a built-in display switcher on every page.
Responsive design: The site is fully responsive across desktop, tablet, and mobile screen sizes. Content reflows correctly at up to 400% zoom.
System fonts: We use the operating system's native font stack for maximum readability and zero loading delay.
Reduced motion: Animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion system setting.
Language: The page language is set to en-GB on all pages.
Structured data: JSON-LD schema markup is present for organisation and FAQ content.
Known issues
We are aware of the following accessibility issues and are working to resolve them:
Video content: The video section currently shows a placeholder. When the video is published, it will include captions and a transcript.
Display switcher in high contrast mode: Some inline-styled elements may not fully respect the high contrast colour scheme. We are progressively fixing these.
PDF documents: No PDF documents are currently published on this site. When they are, they will be tested with PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker) and tagged for screen reader compatibility.
Full WCAG audit: A comprehensive third-party WCAG 2.2 AA audit has not yet been completed. We intend to commission one and publish the results on this page.
How we tested this website
This website has been tested using keyboard-only navigation, NVDA and VoiceOver screen readers, axe DevTools automated checks, and the Colour Contrast Analyser. Testing has been carried out by the NDC team. We have not yet commissioned an independent third-party audit but intend to do so.
